The Rivet Lock Puukko is a fundamentally new knife design and is the product of hundreds of prototypes.
-Think about it. Hundreds of knives were forged to idealize the Rivet Lock Puukko concept.-
Forged from reclaimed ultra high quality modern spring steels. The blade boasts the utlimate in toughness and durability. Cut from thick, modern, state of the art, coils of spring and forged to the the final shape. The process of creating this knife is very complex despite its simple appearance. It includes a highly secretive forging technique only truly known to japanese kitchen knife bladesmiths that allows for a very high quality finish and dramatically increased edge retention.
The blade is designed with maximum longetivity. The handle, wrapped in Nylon Paracord (parachuting rope), will last for decades and even if damaged to the point where the cord is removed, can still remain fully functional due to it's full tang design. Thanks to the genius of the Rivet Lock mechanism. The blade may be sheathed safely with or without the existence of the handle wrap. This means you can safely replace the handle yourself using the lips of the sheath as a starting point for your wrap while protecting your fingers from the wicked sharp scandi grind traditional puukko edge.
The Rivet Lock Puukko is very simple, handsome and strong. Forged utilizing ancient and secretive blade forging techniques traditionaly originating from Japan.
Finland and Japan are known to have a very peculiar cultural bond with one another. In fact, even in terms of steel tool making we see many similarities. Maybe its because our trees are so similar that we share a common cultural bond.
The best way to sharpen these is with a water stone block. A whetstone. Any grit will suffice as long as there is no damage to the edge of the knife. If so, use coarsers stones to remove any damage by continuing the sharpening process until the damage is gone. Scandi grinds appreciate being honed by a leather strop. Stropping the edge of the knife on leather greatly increases the life of the scandi grid edge.
While sharpening, it is not necessary to apply a lot of force. Simply being aware that the very keen edge of the blade is in contact with the stone while the entire bevel rests on the stone, ensures rapid and effective results. Often, where you place your thumb on the blade while sharpening is where the pressure is applied to from the knife on to the stone. If you lower your thumb closer to the edge and apply mild pressure while feeling the contact to the stone, you will ensure that the stone is in contact with the very edge and it will give you sharp results. Stropping the edge of the knife after sharpening is vital for removing any retained burring from the edge which may occur while sharpening.
